How do I split one code into several?

1 min readCoding and memos

Overview

Open the code's evidence (double-click the code, or open Retrieved Evidence) and choose Split code. Name two to eight new codes, choose whether they become subcodes of the original or sit beside it, and assign each text passage to one of them or leave it where it is. The original code is never deleted.

What to do

  1. Open Retrieved Evidence for the code and choose Split code.
  2. Type the names of the new codes. Subcodes of the original is the default, which turns the original into the theme above them.
  3. For each item, choose the new code it belongs to, or leave it on Stay. Set all to gives every passage the same code at once.
  4. Choose Create codes. Passages you assigned move to their new code; the rest stay on the original.
