What does the Cluster tree show?
Overview
The Cluster tree groups codes, or documents, that pattern alike, using hierarchical clustering. You choose whether to cluster codes or documents, the linkage method, the number of clusters and how many items to include. Selecting a name shows its evidence. Use it to suggest candidate themes or groups of similar cases, and confirm them by reading the evidence. Find it under Analysis › Relations & Maps › Cluster Tree.
What to do
- Choose what to cluster (codes or documents) and how many items to include with Show top (the last choice is All).
- Try more than one number of clusters and compare the results.
- Select a name to inspect its evidence.
- Describe the clusters as patterns in your coding, then check them against the data.
When to use it
- To group codes or documents that are coded alike.
