What does the Portrait view show?
Overview
Portrait provides a compact visual profile of coding across documents or cases. Use it to compare the composition and concentration of codes, identify cases with distinctive profiles, and select contrasting documents for close reading. The view summarizes assigned coding and should be interpreted with source length, available questions, and metadata in mind. Find it under Analysis › Frequencies & Comparison › Portrait.
What to do
- Compare cases that had comparable opportunities to discuss the topic.
- Open distinctive or apparently empty areas in their source context.
- Use metadata carefully to explain the sample, not to claim unsupported group effects.
When to use it
- To see how codes are spread along each document.
