What do the small icons next to a code mean?

1 min readGetting started

Overview

Every code in the code list has a row of small icon buttons. Hover an icon to see its name. From left to right they add a sub-code, edit the code (name, colour and definition), merge it into another code, split it into several codes, add or open its memo, and delete it. The triangle at the start of the row opens or closes the sub-codes. The same code actions are also available above Retrieved Evidence when you open a code in Analysis.

What to do

  1. Use Add sub-code to build a hierarchy under the selected code.
  2. Use Merge when two codes mean the same; all evidence moves to the code you choose.
  3. Use Split when one code covers several ideas; you can create sub-codes or new codes and choose where each piece of evidence goes.
  4. A memo icon that looks filled means the code already has a memo.
