How do I go from coded data to a first results draft?

Overview

A results draft is built from analyses you have checked, not from the codes alone. Work from the analysis to the evidence and then to the writing, and keep each step traceable. Generate findings writes a first paragraph for each table or figure from its numbers, and you read and edit everything.

What to do

  1. Check the coding first: open Analysis › Evidence › Coded Evidence and Overview, and fix wrongly coded passages.
  2. Choose the outputs that answer your research questions, for example Frequency, a Comparative Patterns table or a map, and add each with Add figure or Add table.
  3. Open Results and, for each item, review the Evidence Pool. Use Cover all groups (auto) when the pool is large.
  4. Fill in Project details, then choose Generate findings and read every sentence against the table or figure.
  5. Generate the Methods draft once your project details are complete.
  6. Download the Word draft, and keep a JSON backup of the project.
