How does the Evidence Pool work, and what is sent to AI?
Overview
When you add a figure or table, Results collects the coded passages that belong to it, based on its codes, files and filters. This is the Evidence Pool. Only the passages you keep in the pool appear in the evidence section of the Word file, and only those are used as the evidence for that item. Cover all groups (auto) picks a small set of passages so that every group of every variable in the output is represented for each code. Where several passages could fit a group, it prefers the one closest to the wording the group’s passages share for that code, and it avoids very short passages. You can add, remove or swap any passage. The passage limit (Automatic, up to 60, up to 100, or No limit) keeps the pool a workable size.
What to do
- Open the Evidence Pool before you generate findings and check the file, code and variable labels.
- Use Cover all groups (auto) when the pool is large, then add any passage you want to keep. The line under the toolbar shows how many code × group cells your passages reach.
- Exclude repeats and passages that do not really support the result.
- Open the pool again after a refresh, because the matching passages may have changed.
